Windows continued

This shot shows the ‘fixed frame’ in primed condition and the opener awaiting further rust and paint removal.

The primer coat has to be applied within 4 hours of bare metal exposure, otherwise new rust will set in; hence sanding and priming one window, before commencing preparation of the next.

The side window having been cleaned and primed with one coat of gloss paint; before building work commences, the windows will be covered with a protective layer of polythene, before being glazed, we hope with an equivalent to the original specification glass.

The paint applied is the original ‘Midland Cream’ which has been used in conjunction with the Arkwright society’s renovation of the main station building over the tracks.  This colour and specification has been approved by the relevant authorities.

Note the top right ‘pane’ still in primer.  This is because this particular section contains the only pane of glass surviving in any of the windows; as such it is worthy of preservation.  Since this photo was taken the area around the glass has been carefully masked up and painting has now been completed.
